Wood construction plays an increasingly important role in the Swedish housing market. A good example is the development within Jörnträhus, which now builds 20 apartments in central Skellefteå.
– There is a lot of positive things happening in Skellefteå right now and the pressure on the housing market is expected to increase in the next few years. Our block-built apartment houses with high prefabrication allow us to offer more smart options with low environmental impact, says CEO Arvid Cedergren.
Jörnträhus has previously been best known for its timbered holiday houses. When the company became part of the Contractor Bygg group in 2013, work began on developing factory-made block houses, with pre-assembled outer walls, windows and panels. In 2018 Jörnträhus launched the first apartment project on a plot at the intersection Svedjevägen/Torsgatan in Skellefteå. The neighborhood Vänligheten will be ready for occupancy at the end of 2019 and consists of five houses with a total of 20 four-room apartments of 100 m2. Arvid Cedergren explains:
– One of the most important advantages of the block houses is that they are built with a relatively high degree of prefabrication already in the factory, which reduces construction time on site. Then, of course, the climate issue is important for us who work with wood as a construction material. The more options with low environmental impact offered the better. We are proud to be able to contribute to a positive development. For Jörnträhus, the apartments in Skellefteå are part of a long-term strategic investment, which complements the company’s offering in holiday houses.

– Of course, Northvolt’s establishment of the new battery factory in Skellefteå is a factor that affects the need in the housing market. But for us at Jörnträhus this is a business development where we look further than that. We are given the opportunity to create even larger building volumes and thus continue to offer jobs at the factory in Jörn, says Arvid Cedergren.
