Timber construction is playing an increasingly important role in the Swedish housing market. A good example of this is the development of Jörnträhus, which is now building 20 apartments of its own in central Skellefteå.
- A lot of positive things are happening in Skellefteå right now and the pressure on the housing market is expected to increase in the coming years. Our blockhouse-built apartment buildings with a high degree of prefabrication give us the opportunity to offer more smart alternatives with low environmental impact, says Jörnträhus CEO Arvid Cedergren.
Jörnträhus was previously best known for its timber-framed holiday homes. When the company became part of the Contractor Bygg group in 2013, work began on developing factory-made log houses, with pre-assembled exterior walls, windows and panels. In 2018, Jörnträhus started the first apartment project under its own management on a plot at the junction of Svedjevägen/Torsgatan in Skellefteå. The Vänligheten neighbourhood will be ready for occupancy at the end of 2019 and consists of five houses with a total of 20 four-room apartments of 100 m2. Arvid Cedergren explains:
- One of the most important advantages of log houses is that they are built with a relatively high degree of prefabrication in the factory, which reduces construction time on site. Then, of course, the climate issue is important for those of us who work with wood as a construction material. The more options with low environmental impact that are offered, the better. We are proud to be able to contribute to a positive development. For Jörnträhus, the apartments in Skellefteå are part of a long-term strategic investment, which complements the company's offer in holiday homes.

- Of course, Northvolt's establishment of the new battery factory in Skellefteå is a factor that affects the need in the housing market. But for us at Jörnträhus, this is a business development where we look further ahead than that. We get the opportunity to create even larger construction volumes and thus continue to offer jobs at the factory in Jörn, says Arvid Cedergren.
