We dare to try and learn as we go

CUSTOMER REPORT / SVANSTRÖM

- "It's important to stop and enjoy yourself sometimes during the building process," say Ida and Filip Almlöf, who are building their dream house in Lövlund, a kilometre outside Skellefteå.

- "When we had finished installing the recessed boxes for the sound system, we celebrated with hamburgers and festis for evening coffee," says Filip. "We sat on our plastic chairs and looked out over the meadows. It was a wonderful feeling," Ida continues.

The location, with its beautiful view of meadows and the Klintforsån river flowing past in the background, appealed to the couple when they decided to build. They had first decided on another plot, but they were not allowed to build there as they wanted, as it was too close to shore protection and arable land. The choice fell on another plot that provided better conditions for the single-storey villa at an angle that they had decided on.

"We only made two adjustments, we were so happy with the basic design."

FEW ADJUSTMENTS

- We only changed two things from the original plans, and that was to extend the house by one metre and move a door," says Ida.

They had intended to choose a turnkey house, but once they started looking at models, they wanted a slightly "more fun" house than standard. The choice fell on Svanström from Jörnträhus, which has an exciting design but which, like many other models from Jörnträhus, can be adjusted to a permanent residence with small means.

- "It's not the biggest house, but there's still plenty of room and it's just right for us. The house is airy and feels big and we're looking forward to living here, in the country but still close to town," says Filip.

They do all the interior work except the plumbing themselves and like the freedom it gives them to make many decisions as the building progresses.

- We really like the Svanström model, which stands at an angle of 45°. It's a fairly large house that suits us perfectly. The only thing we'd change in retrospect is to adapt the layout of the living room to how we intend to furnish it," says Ida.

ROOTS FROM THE COUNTRYSIDE

It was obvious to choose Jörnträhus as a house supplier. Filip comes from Jörn, his sister has worked at Jörnträhus and his friend is currently working there. The plot is in Lövlund, where Ida grew up, so they both have roots in the house project.

- When we are in the house and look out of the big window, we feel a sense of calm for the future. We can really visualise a finished terrace, trees swaying and animals walking past in the meadow. We look forward to all the lovely summers here, outside the city but still so close," they say.

"We feel a sense of calm for the future. We visualise a terrace and trees swaying in the wind."

IT'S NEAR NOW

- "It's hard to know exactly how far we have to go before we can move in, but it feels close now. There are still wet rooms, floors and mouldings to be done, but we can see what the end result will be," says Filip.

The kitchen from Electrolux was included in the house and is ready after some adjustments to make it feel like its own. For the roof, they have chosen a folded sheet metal roof that fits well with the Svanström house model.

- The most fun part of building the house has been being part of it all and learning so much along the way. I didn't know anything about building houses when we started, but I've learnt during the process. I dare to try things in a completely different way now, and that's really fun," Ida concludes.
